Year 1&2
Welcome to Key Stage 1
We have 3 classes in Key Stage 1
Ash Class - Miss Sparrow
Beech Class - Mrs Hollis & Miss Mac
Cedar Class - Mrs Kay & Mrs Bollands
We are supported by Miss Simmonite,Mrs Hallatt, Mrs Oldershaw, Miss Woodhead and Miss Hawley.
We follow a 2 year rolling programme to ensure that the children have a wide and varied curriculum. Our themes change every half term and they are:
Changes Within Living Memory, Famous for more than 5 Minutes, The Big Wide World, Look Back in Time, Our Local Area and We Are Britain.
We have lots of fantastic things planned for you!
English
We will be looking at lots of different books linked to our themes, including storybooks, poetry books and information books. Your child is sure to discover a new book or favourite author! It is important that you learn how to construct, punctuate and expand your sentences, so we spend a lot of time perfecting this. Reading takes priority too and we follow the Read, Write, Inc phonics scheme. Every child on the phonics scheme has a link to the Oxford Owl Reading Library, here you will find your child's current reading book and a quiz to complete.
Maths
We learn how to count to 100 and back in ones, twos, fives and tens. We learn to add and subtract, multiply and divide and find halves and quarters. We learn to measure and weigh, recognise coins and notes and begin to tell the time. We also learn the names and properties of 2D and 3D shapes. Mental arithmetic is key and so we are using Number Sense to help our children develop this skill. We follow White Rose Maths and we really like to use our reasoning skills to help Tiny solve number problems! The White Rose 1 Min App is an excellent free resource to help your child grasp early number facts.
Science
We become scientists by observing, predicting, testing, asking questions and spotting patterns. The areas that we look at are:
Animals including Humans, Seasonal Changes, Everyday Materials, Plants and Living Things and their Habitats.
Educational Visits
We will have visits from ' The History Van' and 'The Emergency Services Museum'. We will go on the tram to the cinema, walk around the local area, as well as a trip to Cleethorpes in the summer term. The grown ups are most excited about our 60s/70s/80s themed party though!
