The PE Curriculum

Here at Shooters Grove Primary School PE is valued as an important part of every child's education. We endeavour to teach children the basic fundamentals of movement during KS1 before focusing on sporting skills and competition as they move through KS2. Every child has the opportunity to participate in two gymnastic and dance units each year as well as one outdoor and adventurous activity. These are complimented by a range of sports that feed into after school clubs and level 2 competition against other schools in our locality. Our forward planning ensures that all children will have a range of sporting experiences whilst at Shooters Grove which all have pathways to competition and local clubs.

PE and Sport Premium

In March 2013 the government announced that it was to provide additional funding of £150 million per annum for academic years 2013 to 2014 and 2014 to 2015 to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools in England – The Primary PE and Sport Premium.

This funding is allocated to primary school headteachers. The funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

However, on 24th October 2017, the Department for Education published new guidance on the doubled Primary PE and Sport Premium grant. The aims for doubling the School Sports Premium can be found here:

How Have We Spent Our Sports Premium 2016-17?

For the 2016-17 academic year we received a total of £9,395 of Sports Premium funding. This has enabled us to employ a full time Arches coach, buy more equipment for PE lessons and ensure that we are able to travel to sporting events throughout the year. A full breakdown of spending can be found in the file below as well as an overview of sporting competitions and the number of after school clubs we held last year.
